Letter From David Anderson

A little history...

Efforts to establish a world class machine shop at Olin began in September of 2002. In less than three months, the machine shop grew from two empty rooms to a fully functional shop capable of CNC machining, metal forming and welding. In the same year, we continued to add capabilities with the purchase of an abrasive water jet cutter and a 4-axis CNC machining. By the end of the first academic year the CNC lathe was on order and due to arrive late summer. In October of  2003 the 75 watt laser cutter/engraver arrived and was operational three hours after delivery!

To date we have two class rooms totaling 3,450 square feet of work space separated by the instructors offices which have viewing windows to both shops. In addition, there are two smaller shops known as the mini-shops, one wood and one metal for smaller jobs.
